How do you say 'Where are you from'? Is it '어디에서 왔어요?'?

어디에서 왔어요? is not the right expression for 'Where are you from?'.
It means 'Where do you really come from?'. So, This expression is used when you really move. For example, travel or visit. If you meet someone online. You can't use this expression. That's really weird because you don't walk, take a taxi or something.

So,

어느 나라 사람이에요?

저는 ~사람이에요

is correct.

어디에서 왔어요? doesn't mean only 'country' but also 'City', 'company', etc.

So, if you visit another company for business, someone can ask you '어디에서 오셨어요?'. Or if you travel with your girl/boyfriend in Korea. A seller or stranger can ask you '어느 나라에서 오셨어요?' because you really walk or take some transportation and move a lot.
